Ohio Culinary Schools & Certificate Programs

In the Buckeye state, you’ll find a population of over 11.3 million people who have a great love of food. This, combined with the state’s variety of fine dining options and low cost of living make Ohio a very good choice for culinary professionals who would like to start their career in the state.

Ohio’s culinary industry is, like many other states, subject to high turnover, so it’s almost always easy to find somewhere to work as a culinary professional. However, these jobs are generally not very prestigious and well paid. If you want to be able to work as a high level culinary professional, you’ll need to have a culinary education in the form of a culinary certificate or degree. By completing a culinary program in one of the state’s community colleges, four year universities, or private culinary institutions, you’ll be well prepared for a successful career. While studying for your culinary degree or certificate, you will learn how to prepare some of Ohio’s favorite foods, skillfully and safely handle a knife, present food in a pleasing manner, and follow the proper procedures for safe handling of food.

Getting a culinary education will help you get a better job and a larger paycheck, but culinary schools are not cheap. Many Ohio students find that they require some form of financial aid to be able to afford their culinary education. If you think you’ll need help paying for culinary school, you can get connected with the Ohio Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. This organization has plenty of resources to help you find a student loan, scholarship, grant, or work study program that will make your dream of completing a culinary certificate or degree program a reality.

Ohio’s culinary opportunities are like many other states. The state offers plenty of restaurant jobs in its large cities, notably Cincinnati and Columbus. You will also find that there are lots of positions in small eateries and bakeries throughout the state.

Ohio has a cost of living that is lower than the national average, so you’ll find that your money will go far here. And although the cost of living is low, salaries for culinary professionals are not. Executive chefs in Cincinnati can expect to earn between $45,000 and $101,000 per year.
